Today's outfit was all about being comfortable and cozy. Stretchy jeans? Check. Cuddly sweater? Check. Comfy shoes? Double check. Marked a lot of things off the to-do list today. I ran some miscellaneous errands, started my Christmas shopping (ack so much to do, so little time!), bought a tree and did some grocery shopping. Great outfit for running around town.

Inspiration - INSPIRATION
Feeling extra preppy today so I decided to rotate in the sweater vest. At first I tried my blue checkered button down shirt (seen here and here) but because my vest is pink it looked a little like a crazy person got dressed in the dark. So I switched to plain ole basic white button down and really like the results. Simple, classic and warm. Perfect winter office outfit.

With all the holiday and new year's parties on the horizon I decided to do a shiny outfit experiment. I bought this shirt at TJ Maxx for a Vegas trip and I thought it'd be fun to use to reproduce the SJP outfit with my bright shoes. I don't have (or look attractive in) the haraem/pleated/poofy cropped pants so I tried to reverse the proportions of SJP's outfit and have a loose top with sleeker bottoms. I really like that it's forgiving in the middle for all the holiday treats I'm hiding in my belly these days.
On the subject of shine - I'm not one for too much sparkle in my regular day to day outfits. I tend toward color/pattern versus reflectivity in my clothing. (Jewelry is another story! Shine on!) I know that daytime sequins have become fashionably acceptable but whenever I see women wearing a sparkle tank at 3 pm it always makes me think of five year old girls who have been allowed to dress themselves. And at work - it's just a big no. (Maybe I'm just not cool enough?)

I try to never buy anything to recreate outfits I've pinned/saved for this blog but after seeing this photo, realizing that I didn't own a cozy neutral knit sweater and deciding that it would be a fantastic closet staple - I began to hunt for something similar. I found some I liked at both Target & Old Navy but trying them on they didn't have the weight & warmth that I was looking for so no dice. Then last weekend I was shopping at H&M with the girls (in Atlanta before the Madonna concert) I got lucky and stumbled on this one. Love it. Soooo much.
I love this outfit recreation soooo much also. I feel warm and preppy and wintery. The sweater is so cozy - I'm ready to do something holiday & wintery - like go on a sleigh ride in or to a present wrapping party...

This is the outfit I'm wearing for my low key Turkey Day. My family is super casual so I wanted to wear something easy, comfy and cute for the holiday together. I think this outfit is great for running around the kitchen but also photographs well for impromptu family snapshots. Hope you all have a fantastic holiday!

I didn't get a chance to post this outfit from last week because I was doing to the One Suitcase series. This is my cold weather game day outfit. It was Florida's homecoming, freezing cold and we had a nighttime pep-rally the Friday before the Saturday football game. (Freezing being a slight exaggeration because I'm a Florida cold wimp - it was probably only in the low 40s.) I added my cream winter coat (J.Crew Lady Day Coat - LOVE - I found it in a consignment shop about twelve years ago and it's the only actual winter coat I own) and a blue scarf to complete the outfit. Goooo Gators!

Okay - this is an unusual post - the first costume for the blog! I am in Atlanta with my bookclub girls this weekend to see Madonna!! And we decided as a group to dress up for the concert. I didn't do anything for Halloween so I got a little excited at the prospect of recreating 80s Madonna.
I dug around in my closet and this is the fun outfit I came up with. I took tights I typically wear with my boots, layered a skirt that I can't believe I used to wear in college over top, put on a lace tank (that I really like and actually wear a lot currently) with a black bra underneath. Then I piled on every bangle bracelet and metallic necklace I have. Once I had that much I realized I needed a few completer pieces - so I headed to the mall with my sister and we found the lace fingerless gloves ($3 from Spencer's), a pair of giant sparkly star earrings ($1.50 on sale at Forever 21) and the two cross necklaces ($3 each from Forever 21).
And to complete the look on Saturday night I'm going to make my hair crazy 80s messy/crimpy, tie a big black bow with panyhose as a headband and then wear my Wayfarer sunglasses all night.
It has been super fun emailing pictures of each of our outfit progress this week - I loved one friend's Vogue 90s Madonna outfit with sparkle bra so much! I will post a group shot of us sometime next week.

Super excited for this weekend - heading on the road to Atlanta for a bookclub girls trip! (Just wait - tomorrow's outfit is super funny!) Wearing this sweater & jeans for the car trip with riding boots and then switching to the heels for dinner with the girlies.
(Also packing an alternate 'fun' top if we end up going out on the town that can be put on top of this bottom & shoes.) Think this could be a really fun outfit for a holiday party...

I feel like you guys have seen a lot of this skirt after all the suitcase posts. But it called my name this morning and so I am wearing it again! Because I have a pretty curvy figure - I'm very careful about introducing pattern on my bottom half (I keep trying on patterned crop pants and they look so terrible I basically laugh myself out of the dressing room) but I think I can handle pattern in this skirt because of the simple shape and subdued colors.
And I have to say that Audrey from Putting Me Together is totally right in her post (great clothes diagram here) that introducing patterned/colored bottoms give you so many more outfit options when paired with the same number of tops compared to black pants or jeans.
